WOW we made it, we're all still here! Good for us! What did I tell you last month? Please go read it if you don't remember. I'm not psychic or anything like that, but let's face facts. Enough already when the doomsday prophesies, OK? Can we just live as well as we possibly can, without all this insanity?

I went grocery shopping with my mother on Thursday December 30th. Very bad idea...

We just needed a few things and our cart was less than our usual. I think we were the only ones like that in the store. Everybody else had shopping carts overflowing, and it took forever to get through the checkout. My mom and I were just looking at each other. Maybe it's the Italian in us...we just don't panic over things like the end of the world. In her 70 years, my mom heard about the end of the world so many times that it's become a joke.

What a beautiful beginning to 2000! We were awed and wowed by the majestic fireworks all over the world, thanks to the magic of television. I saw almost all of them, and was flaberghasted by the ones in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was absolutely magnificent. Bravo! I was lucky enough to actually be inside the Eiffel Tower in September 1995 and can imagine how much work and collaboration must have been involved in setting up such an incredible show. The same goes for all the other cities, even those that didn't make it on television, but were spectacular nonetheless. We're so lucky to be living in such exciting times. I know it's just a number, but millenniums only come around every thousand years ;-). If that doesn't make you feel special, well then, we'll have to find something else.

Preparations for the 30th Anniversary of International Earth Day have begun. Please help us spread the word that a wave of prayer and thoughts for peace and goodwill will circle the globe on March 20, 2000. Join us and tell as many people as you can.

I'm looking for a WOW City! Due to the many letters I receive about WOW on cars in the East Coast and the excitement it generates when people visit wowzone, we're producing beautiful WOW decals. Thousands of them will be distributed in a major city, and I'm looking for suggestions. Keep in mind that the chosen city will be the Origin of WOW, the first community in the world to actually show that they Wish Only Well. As others follow, we'll make the 3rd Millennium WOW! Write to me if you can help distribute the decals in your city.

If you live in Montreal, you are invited to do some pro bono work. What? Yes, indeed, I'm looking for volunteers to help me transcribe original International Earth Day documents into Microsoft Word. This would be an ideal opportunity for students of social studies, economy, film, ecology, etc. You will be given credit on the Earth Day Site and a personal thank you note from the founder of Earth Day himself, Mr. John McConnell. If you're interested in helping in any way, please write to me.

I know from the stats that there are many educational institutions visiting wowzone. I'm asking for students from Montreal because it's easier access, that's all. I'm not discriminating in any way. On the other hand, you may be wondering why I'm looking for a WOW City when I live in Montreal, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Well, it saddens me to say that although my natural first choice would be Montreal, I simply can't do it here. If I did, the Quebec Language Police would stop me.

Are you still laughing? It's true. Here's the story: WOW, which stands for Wish Only Well, is English, and doesn't translate well into French, Quebec's Official Language. In French, it's Souhaiter Seulement Bien. SSB - a far cry from WOW. Therefore WOW, in my town, is illegal. Don't get me started....

I'll wrap up by wishing everyone a splendid, totally bug free 2000! May this be, for all of us, wherever we are, the very best year yet. Let's clean the slate and start fresh, with a bright and cheerful attitude. It's a great time to do it. We won't have another chance like this for a thousand years!

Wishing only well,

Carmen Colombo
